South Korean Regulator Delays Decision on 800MHz Spectrum

Korea Communications Commission logoThe Korea Communications Commission (KCC) has delayed its decision on whether to force the top mobile carrier, SK Telecom, to share the 800MHz spectrum with its two rivals—KTF and LG Telecom—the Korea Herald reports. The five members of the regulator’s standing committee agreed to discuss the so-called spectrum-roaming plan late this year when it drafts a comprehensive plan for spectrum reallocations. However, industry sources said SK Telecom is likely to retain its exclusive right to the so-called “golden spectrum” until 2011 as planned because a majority of the members of the standing committee favoured a plan to let mobile operators resolve the issue.
